Throughout the raids, a significant police presence was upheld in the region to avert any incidents. This operation is a component of a larger ATS initiative aimed at monitoring potential terrorist networks following recent warnings about possible sabotage efforts.

The inquiry dates back to 2023, when the Pune Police and ATS discovered a module connected to ISIS that intended to carry out bombings in Mumbai, Pune, and major cities in Gujarat. It is reported that the group conducted explosive tests in the forest regions of Kolhapur and Satara districts and underwent bomb-making training in Kondhwa.

After the arrests, authorities have been diligently observing individuals under suspicion and their local connections. The recent operation in Kondhwa is thought to be a continuation of the previous case.

Previously, police had arrested several accused in connection with the terror conspiracy, including Mohammad Shahanaz Alam, Rizwan Ali, Abdullah Shaikh, Talah Liyaqat Khan, and Mohammad Imran Mohammad Yusuf Khan alias Matka alias Ameer Abdul Hamid Khan, all linked to ISIS.

Others arrested were Mohammad Yunus Mohammad Yakub Saki alias Adil, Kadir Dastagir Pathan alias Abdul Kadir, Samib Nasiruddin Kazi (both residents of Kondhwa, Pune), and Zulfikar Ali Badodwala alias Lala, along with Shamil Sakib Nachan and Akif Atik Nachan from Padgha, Thane.

Mohammad Alam, a primary suspect, was first apprehended by police during an attempted motorcycle theft in Kothrud. His capture subsequently helped investigators reveal a larger terror network, leading to heightened alertness throughout Pune and nearby areas.

Authorities said that the latest Kondhwa raids are part of sustained efforts to prevent any revival of terror networks and ensure the safety of citizens.
