Pune: A father allegedly killed his 9-year-old son in a fit of rage for not studying. The boy, identified as Piyush Vijay Bhandalkar, was reportedly slammed against a wall and strangled by his father, Vijay Ganesh Bhandalkar. The incident occurred in Hol village, Baramati taluka, Pune district, on January 14.
According to the police, the altercation began when Piyush’s father reprimanded him for not focusing on his studies. Around 2:30 PM, Vijay Bhandalkar scolded his son, accusing him of wasting time playing outside and of behaving like his mother. The situation escalated when Vijay, in a fit of anger, slammed Piyush against a wall and strangled him.
At the time of the incident, Piyush’s grandmother, Shalan Bhandalkar, was present. However, she allegedly did not intervene to stop the attack. Later, the family fabricated a story, claiming that Piyush had fainted and fallen. Following this, Santosh Bhandalkar, another family member, took the boy to Dr. Bhattad in Nira, where they informed the doctor that Piyush had died due to fainting.
Dr. Bhattad declared the child dead and suggested taking him to a primary health center for further formalities. However, instead of following the doctor’s advice, the family transported the body to their village. Without informing the local police patil or other authorities, they began preparing for the funeral to avoid raising suspicion.
The incident came to light when the police received information about the suspicious circumstances surrounding the child’s death. A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been registered against Vijay Ganesh Bhandalkar, Shalan Bhandalkar, and Santosh Bhandalkar. Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Rahul Sable is leading the investigation.
