Bharat Asmita Awards: MIT-WPU to Felicitate Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Vivek Agnihotri, and Others

Event will be presided over by Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, and Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad.

Pune: The MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) and MIT School of Government have announced the 21st edition of the Bharat Asmita National Awards, which will be presented to distinguished personalities from the fields of education, governance, science, cinema, and social work.

The prestigious awards will be presented to:

  • Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director of IIM Ahmedabad, for his remarkable contributions to management education and research

  • Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, for his efforts in making air travel more accessible to the public

  • Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Former Chief Scientist at WHO, for her pioneering work in advancing medical research in India

  • Vivek Agnihotri, celebrated filmmaker and writer, and Shekhar Sen, renowned singer and composer, for their contributions to cinema, intellectual discourse, and performing arts

  • Padma Shri Dr. Abhay Bang and Dr. Rani Bang, who will receive the Bharat Asmita Lifetime Achievement Award for their extraordinary contributions to healthcare and social reform in rural India.

Award Ceremony Details

The awards will be presented on February 3 at 10 AM at the World Peace Dome in Rajbaug, Loni Kalbhor, known as the world’s largest peace dome.

The event will be presided over by Padma Vibhushan Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, and MIT-WPU's Founder-President Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad. Each awardee will receive a cash prize of ₹1.25 lakh, a citation, and a memento as part of the recognition.

Recognizing Excellence in Various Fields

The Bharat Asmita National Awards aim to honor individuals who have significantly contributed to India’s global reputation through their achievements. The initiative also seeks to inspire young minds by highlighting the impact of exemplary leaders in their respective fields.

By recognizing their achievements, we hope to encourage the youth to follow their path of excellence and service," said Dr. Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Executive President of MIT-WPU and Convenor of the Bharat Asmita National Awards Committee.
