Pune: Relatives of an 86-year-old man, who passed away at home, accused Bharati Hospital of negligence and resorted to vandalism at the hospital premises. The incident occurred on January 7, around 12:30 a.m., outside the Ortho OPD of Bharati Hospital.
Dr. Ankita Arpit Grover, a hospital staff member, lodged a complaint at the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station. Following this, the police registered a case under the Maharashtra Medical Services Institution Act against the individuals involved in the act of vandalism and intimidation.
Tejraj Jain, 86, was admitted to Bharati Hospital on December 29 by his relatives due to a low pulse rate and blockages. Despite being advised of his critical condition, his relatives decided to take him to another hospital but instead brought him home. Jain passed away at home on December 30.
On January 7, a group comprising Kenya Jain, Chandraprakash, three women, and one man arrived at the hospital’s Ortho OPD, alleging negligence in Jain’s diagnosis and treatment.
The group refused to listen to hospital staff and verbally abused Dr. Grover, female security staff, and hospital management. They lifted stools, damaged glass panels of the electric room, and caused a ruckus, creating panic among hospital staff and patients.
The case is under investigation by Assistant Police Inspector Snehal Thorat, who is handling the matter further.
