Pune: Residents of Kasewadi in Bhavani Peth area are battling horrific living conditions as sewage water has been flooding their homes for the last four to five days. With no resolution in sight despite repeated complaints, the frustrated residents have warned of staging a large-scale protest if immediate action is not taken.

Blocked drainage lines in the area have caused sewage water to overflow into homes, kitchens, and even prayer rooms, making daily life unbearable. The problem, which has been recurring for the last three months, reached its peak recently when continuous flooding persisted for days.

Residents described the horrifying situation of their homes filled with foul-smelling water and sludge. “Mosquitoes, larvae, and insects have infested our houses, posing a severe health risk, especially to children and elderly family members,” said resident Shabana Ansari. She also highlighted the challenges of cooking and sleeping, adding that the problem has disrupted school routines for their children.

Despite numerous complaints to local representatives and municipal officials, the issue remains unresolved. “We are tired of walking to different offices and pleading for help. Every official visits, inspects the situation, and leaves without taking any action,” said another resident, Badshah Shaikh.

Residents also criticized municipal workers, accusing them of collecting small amounts of money from households and leaving the cleaning work incomplete. “They only pretend to do the job but never resolve the issue,” said Sandeep Arane.

When questioned, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Kisan Dagadkhair acknowledged the problem and assured that efforts are underway. “We have used high-level machinery to clear the drainage lines, but something large is blocking the system. We are investigating and trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” he said.
