Pune: Mahesh Landge, the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Bhosari, received a death threat on Saturday (September 7) afternoon.

The threat was made via a phone call to the police control room, where the caller, identified as Uday Kumar Rai, claimed to have received a contract to assassinate the BJP leader.

The incident prompted immediate action from the Pimpri-Chinchwad police, who swiftly initiated an investigation and apprehended Uday Kumar Rai within a few hours.

Rai, a resident of Bhosari for the past five years and originally from Chhattisgarh, is now in police custody as authorities continue to probe the situation.

The threat was formally registered as a non-cognizable offense at the Bhosari MIDC police station. While police have successfully detained the suspect, the exact motive behind the threat remains unclear. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to Rai making the threatening call.

MLA Mahesh Landge, a prominent figure in the BJP, has been actively involved in the politics of Pimpri-Chinchwad and is known for his work in the region. The threat against him has raised concerns about the safety of public figures and the political climate in the area.

Senior police officials have assured that the matter is being taken seriously and that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety of MLA Landge. Further details will be disclosed as the investigation progresses.

As of now, Uday Kumar Rai remains in custody, and the police are exploring all angles to determine if the threat was credible or if other factors were involved.
