Pune: BonV Aero has set a new world record for high-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operations.

The Odisha-based startup, which supplies heavy-lift drones to the Indian Army, successfully conducted a hover test at 19,024 feet while carrying a 30kg payload, securing its place in the International Book of Records.

The milestone was achieved at Umling La Pass in Ladakh, the highest motorable pass in the world. BonV Aero’s UAV lifted a 30kg payload to an altitude of 19,024 feet, with a total takeoff weight of 100kg.

This breakthrough showcases the company’s advancement in logistics UAV capabilities, specifically designed to operate in harsh, high-altitude environments where traditional aircraft struggle.

Satyabrata Satapathy, Co-Founder and CEO of BonV Aero, described the achievement as a “proud moment” for the company.

“We’ve been working closely with the Indian Army to create a UAV platform that addresses the logistical difficulties of high-altitude regions. This test reaffirms our commitment to developing cutting-edge aerial mobility solutions that meet the needs of our defense forces,” he said.

The company’s UAV outperformed existing alternatives such as the Cheetah helicopter, which is frequently used in high-altitude operations, including in the Siachen region, where it can carry a maximum payload of 20kg.

In contrast, BonV Aero’s UAV has demonstrated its ability to handle heavier payloads at altitudes exceeding 19,000 feet. This opens new possibilities for logistical operations in India's remote and mountainous northern and eastern border areas.
