Pune: In a significant policy decision, the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) will now be applicable across the entire Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) jurisdiction, including 23 villages.
This move, approved by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a meeting on Wednesday, is expected to provide greater flexibility and uniformity in construction regulations while boosting the real estate sector.
The UDCPR framework was introduced by the Maharashtra state government four years ago to ensure a uniform set of rules for construction and urban development across all municipal corporations and metropolitan areas. However, despite this regulation being applicable across most of Maharashtra, it was not fully implemented within the entire PMRDA region.
Previously, only 23 villages within PMRDA jurisdiction, where the municipal corporation held planning authority, followed UDCPR rules. Other parts of PMRDA were excluded, leading to inconsistencies in construction policies. This disparity caused challenges for builders, developers, and urban planners, who had been demanding a uniform approach.
The issue was brought up during a meeting chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai, where a proposal was formally presented by PMRDA officials. After reviewing the impact and benefits, CM Fadnavis approved the full implementation of UDCPR across PMRDA.
"The proposal for implementing UDCPR in the PMRDA region was presented in a meeting chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis. Both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister responded positively to this move," said Dr. Yogesh Mhase, PMRDA Commissioner.
