Budget 2021: FM Sitharaman announces Rs 300 crore package for Goa 60th Liberation Day anniversary celebration

The announcement was made after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant requested a package of Rs 100 crore for the celebration of the event across the country and restoration of the historic places in the coastal state.

Goa found a special mention in the Budget speech on Monday when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 300 crore package for celebration of the state’s 60 years of liberation from Portuguese rule.

“Goa celebrating diamond jubilee year of state’s liberation from Portuguese rule, from Government of India’s side, I propose to grant Rs 300 crore to Government of Goa for celebrations” Sitharaman said.

The announcement was made after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant requested a package of Rs 100 crore for the celebration of the event across the country and restoration of the historic places in the coastal state.

Sawant took to twitter to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the allocation.

"I thank the Hon PM Shri @narendramodiji, FM Smt @nsitharamanji for the allocation of Rs 300 Cr in the budget to mark 60 Years of Goa's Liberation. I also thank the Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShahji for his continued guidance and support. #AatmanirbharBharatKaBudget," Sawant tweeted.

Goa was a Portuguese colony for a period of 451 years, before the region was liberated by the Indian armed forces in 1961.
