Budget 2021: FM Sitharaman launches PM Atmanirbhar Swastha Bharat scheme with an outlay of Rs 64,180 crore

The scheme will support over 17,000 rural and 11,000 urban health and wellness centre, setting up integrate public health labs in all districts and 3,382 block public health units in 11 states.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget 2021 in the Parliament. Starting her speech amid heckling by parliamentarians, FM proposed to launch PM Atmanirbhar Swastha Bharat scheme with an outlay of Rs 64,180 crore over six years, which will develop capacities of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare systems, strengthen existing healthcare institutions and create new institutions to cater to detection and cure of new disease

The scheme will support over 17,000 rural and 11,000 urban health and wellness centre, setting up integrate public health labs in all districts and 3,382 block public health units in 11 states.

"The government will set up 15 health emergency centres. It will strengthen National Center for Disease Control," FM Nirmala Sitharaman said.

"The overall health and welfare budget outlay for the year 2021-22 is pegged at Rs 2,23,846 crore. This will develop the capacity of primary and secondary care, besides strengthening the national institutions," Sitharaman said.

FM also proposed to launch a Mission Poshan 2.0 along with an Urban Swachh Bharat scheme which will be implemented with an outlay of over Rs 1.4 lakh crore," she added.

The government will also provide Rs 35,000 crore for COVID-19 vaccination in 2021-22
