Pune: The encroachment in Bund Garden area was finally addressed on Thursday (July 11).

The anti-encroachment squad, with heavy police security, dismantled the structures on land under the jurisdiction of the central government along Bund Garden Road.

Plot number 246 on Bund Garden Road had a total of 133 encroachments, including 35 residential units, 94 commercial establishments, three temples, and a public toilet. These structures had been in place for 20 to 25 years.

The administration had previously issued notices to the encroachers, and a petition was filed in the Mumbai High Court against the removal. However, the court did not grant any relief to the encroachers. Consequently, the anti-encroachment squad took action on Thursday.

The operation was conducted by a joint team including Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil, Sub-Divisional Officer Snehal Pishwi Devkate, Property Manager and Pune City Tehsildar Suryakant Yevale, Tehsildar Shankar Dubey, officials from the encroachment department, and MSEDCL officers.
