In a blunder that could have impacted a student’s academic future, the Central Board of Secondary Education allegedly evaluated another student’s Physics answer sheet instead of Vedant’s. Days later, on Monday, the board looked into the matter and shared Vedant’s correct Physics answer book with him. According to Vedant, CBSE also informed him by email that his marks would be revised after a fresh evaluation.

“Please find attached your correct answer book for Physics. Your result will be updated based on the new marks of Physics shortly,” the board said in its email.

What Was the Answer Sheet Mix-Up?

The issue first came to light on May 23, when Vedant posted on social media platform X claiming that the handwriting in the Physics answer sheet sent to him did not match his own. He had applied for a photocopy of the answer book through CBSE’s official portal after receiving what he described as unexpectedly low marks in the subject.

His post quickly gained attention online, crossing more than three million views and receiving over 40,000 likes. Several other students also raised similar concerns on social media.

Earlier, CBSE had said the matter was being treated on “top priority” and that a dedicated team was monitoring the case. The board also stated that students’ interests remain its top priority.

The case has also brought renewed focus on CBSE’s newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board exams, under which scanned answer sheets are evaluated digitally. Since the results were declared, several students have raised concerns over lower-than-expected marks and questioned possible inconsistencies in the evaluation process. Students and parents have also reported technical glitches on CBSE’s post-result services portal. Vedant’s revised Physics marks are now expected shortly as questions continue around the board’s digital evaluation system.
