Pune: Under the recently implemented PM SHRI (Prime Minister's Schools for Rising India) scheme, CBSE has launched an online portal to allow government and aided schools to apply for name changes.

This initiative comes as schools across India consider updating their names in alignment with the PM SHRI guidelines.

In response to multiple requests from school administrations, CBSE has set up an online application process through its SARAS portal.

Schools interested in updating their names can apply on the SARAS portal (https://saras.cbse.gov.in/saras) under the "Change the Name of School" category.

However, CBSE clarified that the link will be available only after the portal reopens for the 2025-26 academic year. Schools will be required to upload an approval letter from the Ministry of Education during the application process to verify the name change.

The PM SHRI scheme, backed by the central government, aims to elevate foundational quality and create a transformational educational experience in government schools managed by central, state, union territory, and local self-governments.

Focused on creating enjoyable, skill-based, and employability-oriented learning environments, the scheme also integrates all curricula based on the latest National Education Policy.

PM SHRI Scheme Highlights:

  • Infrastructure improvements in schools

  • Joyful, quality learning experiences for children

  • Emphasis on value-based education centered on life skills

  • Skill-based education in secondary levels to enhance employability

  • Adoption of the new National Education Policy across all school curricula
