Pune: The internal roads of Chakan MIDC Phase II are undergoing repairs merely six months after they were asphalted, sparking concerns about the quality of previous work. Commuters, especially workers and drivers, are bearing the brunt of these poorly executed repairs, which have led to hazardous conditions rather than providing relief.

In April-May, areas such as Varale and Bhamboli in Phase II witnessed asphalt resurfacing of their roads under the supervision of MIDC. Reports at the time, highlighted the substandard quality of the work. Authorities acknowledged the issue and promised corrective action by instructing the contractor to redo the work.

Despite these assurances, four months of monsoon rains have revealed the extent of the poor workmanship. The roads have deteriorated significantly, forcing another round of repairs. Over the past two weeks, contractors have spread crushed stones and sand over the damaged stretches. However, this temporary fix has created a new set of challenges.

Two-wheeler riders frequently skid on loose gravel, and punctures are becoming a common occurrence for heavy vehicles. The uneven road surface is causing minor accidents, frustrating daily commuters and industrial workers alike.

Satish Chaundekar, Deputy Engineer, MIDC, admitted, "Some areas suffered damage due to water stagnation during the rains. We have instructed the contractor to undertake immediate repairs."

The recurring issues with the roads and the temporary nature of the fixes have led to public dissatisfaction. Many citizens have raised concerns that such projects only benefit contractors while failing to address the real needs of the community.
