Pune: In a precautionary move to ensure public safety, the national highway linking Chandani Chowk to Konkan has been shut down for traffic until August 5. District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase issued the closure order following severe damage caused by incessant rains.

The highway, particularly in the Adarwadi and Dongarwadi ghat sections of Mulshi Taluka, has suffered significant structural damage due to the downpour, resulting in one side of the road collapsing.

Dr. Divase emphasized that the closure is crucial to avoid potential accidents and safeguard citizens.

Mulshi Taluka has been battered by continuous heavy rains over the last two weeks. These torrential downpours have led to cracks and fissures in the road at multiple locations, with the Pirangut ghat area experiencing landslides.

Additionally, sections of the highway in Bhugaon, Bhukum, Pirangut, and Shindewadi have seen waterlogging up to knee level, increasing the risk of accidents in these zones.
