Cows Rescued from Illegal Slaughter: Accused Assault Cops

The accused have been identified as Mukhtar Gafoor Qureshi, Mukhtar Qureshi, and Baba Bepari, from Junnar.

Junnar: Six cattle tied for slaughter at Kasai Mohalla in Junnar town were rescued by police and cow vigilantes. Gau rakshak Shivaji Sanganale said the accused tried to stop the police by shouting and slapping them.

A case has been registered against three persons. The accused have been identified as Mukhtar Gafoor Qureshi, Mukhtar Qureshi (both residents of Kasaiwada, Junnar) and Baba Bepari (resident of Pansumbapeth, Junnar).

Six cattle were tied up for the purpose of slaughter in The Kasai Mohalla in Junnar. When honorary animal welfare officer Shivshankar Swamy came to know that they would be slaughtered at night, he asked fellow cow vigilante Shivraj Sanganale to take legal action with the help of the police administration.

Accordingly, Sanganale informed police inspector Kiran Avachar and requested him to take action. Assistant police inspector More police personnel Deepak Vanve, Santosh Tadge, Kailash Kendre, Bapu Waghmode and others rescued six cattle, including a calve, four calves and a bull.

While the police were seizing the cattle, Mukhtar Qureshi, his son and Baba Bepari gathered a crowd and ran over the police and thrashed them. The police seized all the cattle and registered a case against the accused under the Maharashtra Animal Protection Act and for obstructing government work. 

The cattle were released safely at Jivandaya Gaushala in Sangamner. It was assisted by Sachin Yande, manager of the gaushala.
