Deccan Police Arrest Serial Burglar in Bhandarkar Road Bungalow Theft Case

Investigation revealed that the burglary was executed with the assistance of the accused's mother and aunt, who have prior criminal records.

Pune: The Deccan police have successfully arrested a seasoned burglar involved in robbing a locked bungalow on Bhandarkar Road in Pune. The investigation revealed that the burglary was executed with the assistance of the accused's mother and aunt, who have prior criminal records.

The accused, identified as Ganesh Prakash Awhad (20), hails from Ghanasangvi, Jalna, near the Government Hospital. The burglary occurred on December 13 when the residents of Shantikunj bungalow left for Jaipur in the afternoon to attend a wedding.

Observing the locked house, Awhad entered by breaking the bathroom window grills. Inside, he broke open three steel cupboards and a wooden cupboard in the bedroom and stole valuables worth ₹1 lakh, including ₹50,000 cash and silver ornaments. The theft was discovered on December 14 in the evening, prompting the residents to file a complaint with the Deccan police.

The police analyzed CCTV footage from the area and identified three suspects. Based on technical inputs, they traced one of the suspects to Jalna district. Acting swiftly, the investigation team traveled to Jalna and apprehended Ganesh Awhad. The stolen silver idol and ornaments were recovered during the arrest.

According to Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Bhosale, Awhad is a habitual offender with multiple robbery cases previously registered in Mumbai and Thane. He is known to target locked houses and bungalows, returning to his village immediately after committing the crimes.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officers, including Additional Police Commissioner Pravin Kumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sainath Thombre, and Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar.

The investigation team comprised Sub-Inspectors Mahesh Bhosale, Ajay Bhosale, and Dattatray Sawant, supported by officers and staff members such as Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Dattatray Shinde, Rajendra Marne, Dhanashree Supekar, Gabhale, Mahesh Shirsath, Sagar Ghadge, Wasim Siddiqui, Rohit Pathrut, Dhanaji Mali, and Rohit Mirje.
