Delhi's Air Quality Deteriorates to 'Severe' Levels, Residents Struggle to Breathe

Based on CPCB data, Wazirpur recorded the highest AQI at 445, with Vivek Vihar at 444, Jahangirpuri at 442, Anand Vihar at 439, and both Ashok Vihar and Rohini at 437.

On Saturday morning, December 13, 2025, a dense layer of smog enveloped the national capital, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 397, nearing the 'severe' classification.According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), out of all the monitoring stations in Delhi, 21 recorded air quality index (AQI) levels in the 'severe' category, exceeding the 400 threshold.

Based on CPCB data, Wazirpur recorded the highest AQI at 445, with Vivek Vihar at 444, Jahangirpuri at 442, Anand Vihar at 439, and both Ashok Vihar and Rohini at 437. Narela had an AQI of 432, followed by Pratapganj at 431, Mundka at 430, and Bawana, ITO, and Nehru Nagar each at 429, it stated.

According to CPCB data, the AQI was 423 in both Chandni Chowk and Punjabi Bagh, while Siri Fort and Sonia Vihar each recorded an AQI of 424. Additionally, Burari Crossing had an AQI of 414, Karni Singh Shooting Range recorded 409, North Campus and RK Puram each had 408, and Okhla Phase 2 registered 404.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) classifies an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 0 to 50 as 'good', 51 to 100 as 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 as 'moderate', 201 to 300 as 'poor', 301 to 400 as 'very poor', and 401 to 500 as 'severe'. The Air Quality Early Warning System predicts that Delhi's air quality will likely remain in the 'very poor' range on Saturday, December 13, and could worsen, potentially reaching the 'severe' level on Sunday, December 14.
