Delhi Hospital Tragedy: Senior Resident Doctor Found Dead in Duty Room, Three-Page Note Recovered

Police probe suspected suicide after doctor’s body found in hospital duty room, handwritten note hints at personal and professional distress

A 35-year-old senior resident doctor was discovered dead in a duty room at Delhi's Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital on Sunday morning, leading to a police probe into the circumstances of the incident. As reported by News18, investigators found a three-page handwritten note, a personal diary, a syringe, and empty medicine vials in the room.

The deceased has been identified as Dr. Simarpreet Singh Anand, a Senior Resident in the hospital’s Department of Anaesthesia. Originally from Ludhiana in Punjab, he had been employed at the hospital for the last three years.

Doctor Found Inside Locked Duty Room

The report states that Dr. Anand was assigned night duty from 8 pm on July 4 until 8 am on July 5. On Sunday morning, the Civil Lines Police Station received a PCR call after he was discovered unconscious in Duty Room No. 109. According to police, the room was locked from the inside and had to be forcibly opened at about 9 a.m. after colleagues grew worried. He was taken urgently to the hospital’s emergency ward, where doctors pronounced him dead, News18 reported.

Note, Diary And Medical Items Recovered

A District Crime Unit and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the location.According to a News18 report, police recovered a three-page handwritten note, a personal diary, a syringe, and empty medicine vials.

The items were reportedly found inside a black bag kept in the duty room.

The doctor's body has been moved to the mortuary, and a post-mortem examination by a medical board has been scheduled.

Note Reportedly Mentions Relationship

As reported by News18, police said the note indicated that Dr. Anand acted on his own and mentioned his relationship with fellow Senior Resident Dr. Akanksha Chaudhary, who is also employed in the hospital’s Anaesthesia Department. The note allegedly indicated that both families objected to their marriage due to their different castes. The report added that Dr. Chaudhary hails from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

Police Investigation Underway

Police stated that the Civil Lines Police Station is handling the investigation, and every circumstance related to the doctor's death is under scrutiny. Authorities have not yet released the results of the post-mortem examination, which are anticipated to shed more light on the cause of death.
