What started as a playful conversation swiftly escalated into one of the most widely discussed moments on the internet this week. In the course of the exchange, the creator posed a hypothetical question to one of the police officers, asking how he would respond if his own child turned out to be gay.

One officer responded calmly, saying that every individual is different. “All fingers of the hand aren’t the same,” he said, suggesting that people have unique personalities and identities.

However, another officer’s answer instantly grabbed attention online.

Without hesitation, the cop bluntly replied, “Haddi tod denge” (“I will break his bones”).

The shocking statement triggered loud reactions from people standing nearby and soon spread rapidly across Instagram, X, and meme pages.

Social media split over officer’s response

As the video amassed millions of views, users crowded the comment sections with a range of reactions. Numerous people condemned the statement, describing it as violent, outdated, and highly troubling, particularly because it was made by a law enforcement officer.

Several users contended that these views highlight the persistent challenges LGBTQ individuals in India continue to face, even as their visibility grows and public discussions about acceptance become more common.

Others, however, supported the policeman’s integrity, arguing that his response mirrored the conservative mindset that remains prevalent in many Indian families. The clip has quickly turned into a viral talking point online, with memes, reaction videos, and debate threads still spreading across social media platforms.

LGBTQ rights in India still face social challenges

While the Supreme Court’s landmark 2018 ruling on Section 377 decriminalised homosexuality in India, social acceptance still varies significantly across different regions of the country.

In recent years, Pride parades, LGBTQ creators, and inclusive marketing efforts have become increasingly prominent, particularly in cities. Yet activists consistently emphasize that stigma, familial pressure, and discrimination still impact many individuals within the community.

The viral Delhi interview has once more exposed the stark gap between evolving public discourse and the traditional mindsets that continue to persist in parts of society.
