The Supreme Court told the Centre that it was the Delhi Police's duty to determine if farmers should be permitted to protest in the national capital. The apex court emphasized that it is the Delhi Police and not the Supreme Court that has the jurisdiction in this matter.

Chief Justice S.A. Bobde said "We have not taken charge of the matter except one issue... apparently our intervention has been grossly misunderstood. We are not going to tell you about your powers."

The Supreme Court's observation came after Attorney General KK Venugopal claimed that the Center is looking for restraining orders of farmers from entering Delhi because the matter is in court's hand.

The Court can not determine how many farmers should be permitted in Delhi and the conditions to be put on them, the Chief Justice said. He further insisted that it is for the Delhi police to decide whether to impose any restrictions on the farmers.

The Chief Justice said, "Who should be allowed and who not, and the number of people will be dealt by the police. We cannot be the first authority to deal with it."
