Delhi air doesn’t show signs of improving anytime soon, prompting the city’s schools to shift to hybrid learning for students in Classes IX and XI starting Monday. The move comes in response to the imposition of Stage-IV restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), following dangerously high levels of air pollution. The Directorate of School Education, Delhi, confirmed the decision, prioritizing student health amidst the ongoing environmental crisis.
In a formal directive, the Directorate announced that the decision aligns with the instructions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), which activated Stage-IV of GRAP on December 13 after Delhi's Air Quality Index surpassed the 'Severe+' level. The hybrid model permits schools to conduct both in-person and online classes, where online learning is possible.
The Directorate of School Education has allowed students to choose between online or in-person classes, with schools required to implement hybrid learning immediately. This policy applies to all government, government-aided, and unaided private schools, including those run by NDMC, MCD, and the Delhi Cantonment Board. School heads must notify parents about the change.
The shift comes in response to Stage-IV GRAP restrictions due to AQI exceeding 450, aimed at preventing further deterioration of Delhi’s air quality.
