Pune, 21 August 2025: Pune took a major step in easing its chronic traffic woes on Wednesday as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the integrated double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk.

The project, built by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) at a cost of ₹277 crore, is expected to bring long-awaited relief to thousands of commuters who use the busy Ganeshkhind Road stretch daily.

After the inauguration, Fadnavis inspected the two-level flyover along with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, city MLAs, senior PMRDA officials, and Pune civic authorities.

Designed to tackle one of Pune’s worst traffic bottlenecks, the double-decker structure will serve as an alternative route for vehicles moving between Aundh, Shivajinagar, Baner, and Pashan. Officials said one lane of the flyover, linking Aundh to Shivajinagar, has already been opened for public use. The remaining ramps connecting Baner and Pashan are scheduled to be completed by October 2025.

PMRDA officials noted that once fully functional, the flyover will streamline traffic movement at University Chowk and adjoining roads, providing smoother and faster connectivity for residents and office-goers. The inauguration marks a significant milestone in Pune’s urban infrastructure development, reflecting efforts to keep pace with the city’s rapid growth.
