Mumbai: In an event organized by the Pratibha Prabhakar Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centre, philanthropist and Masala King Dhananjay Datar extended a helping hand by donating oxygen kits to three patients suffering from chronic pulmonary conditions.

The event, held in Goregaon, focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle and raising awareness about the importance of pure air and timely healthcare for pulmonary disease patients.

Datar provided each patient with a comprehensive oxygen kit. The kits included an oxygen concentrator for home use, a portable oxygen machine for travel, and a pulse oximeter to monitor oxygen levels in the blood. Last year, Datar had similarly donated five such kits to those in need.

Datar shared a personal connection to his philanthropy, recalling how his mother struggled with a pulmonary illness in her final days.

“Watching her struggle to breathe was incredibly painful. Even today, seeing patients who require oxygen but can’t afford the necessary equipment disturbs me.

During the COVID pandemic, we witnessed patients losing their lives due to a lack of oxygen or an inability to reach the hospital in time,” Datar said.

To address such challenges, Datar had also supported the ‘Rickshaw Ambulance’ initiative, where auto-rickshaws were equipped with oxygen cylinders to serve as ambulances.

He reaffirmed his commitment to helping more patients in the future, saying, “Last year’s donations were a small gesture, and we are continuing that support this year. We will do more to help those in need.”

The event was coordinated by Dr. Poorvi Devani, a specialist in pulmonary rehabilitation, who emphasized that patients with respiratory illnesses can lead healthy lives with the right mindset, treatment, and regular care.

Dr. Prahlad Prabhudesai, along with his wife, Vaishali Prabhudesai, the founders of the Pratibha Prabhakar Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centre, addressed the audience on the center’s efforts to support patients with respiratory conditions.
