Pune: Bibwewadi police have registered a case against a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman under the pretense of possessing divine powers. The accused, whose identity remains undisclosed, is also charged with threatening the victim’s life.
According to the complaint, the victim was acquainted with the accused, who allegedly claimed to possess spiritual abilities and divine energy. Using this false pretext, he lured the woman into his trust.
The incident occurred at the victim’s residence while her two children were present. The accused allegedly assaulted her at knifepoint, threatening her life if she resisted.
The frightened victim subsequently reported the matter to the Bibwewadi police station. “We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigations are underway,” a police official stated. Assistant Police Inspector Sawant is leading the probe.
In a separate incident reported recently in October 2024, a shocking case was revealed about a 19-year-old woman who was subjected to coercion and sexual abuse since she was a minor. The perpetrators used an objectionable video to blackmail her and forced her into a live-in relationship.
Four individuals, including Nasir Sikandar Mulani, his mother Parveen Mulani, and two of the victim's relatives, were arrested. Over the course of four years, the victim was forced into a live-in relationship through a notarized agreement and was subjected to sexual abuse at a lodge and a residence in Baramati.
The complaint also reveals that Nasir's family conducted a Muslim religious ceremony at his aunt’s house in a nearby village, falsely portraying it as a legitimate marriage.
