Pune: Social activist Dr. Baba Adhav, aged 95, concluded his hunger strike on Saturday (November 30), emphasizing the need for a renewed fight to save democracy.

The hunger strike, which lasted two days, was aimed at protesting the unresolved issues faced by the common people, the increasing polarization of elections on religious and caste lines, and the growing interference of industrialists in democratic processes.

Dr. Adhav ended his fast by accepting lime water from Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Uddhav Thackeray.

Leaders from various political parties and social organizations attended the event, including Sharad Pawar, Sanjay Raut, and others.

In his address, Dr. Adhav questioned the rapid shift in public opinion post-Lok Sabha elections and criticized the use of financial power in recent elections.

He vowed to continue his fight peacefully, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, against the suppression of dissent and misuse of power.

Sharad Pawar expressed concerns over the misuse of power in elections, stating that Dr. Adhav’s movement provided hope to ordinary citizens.

Ajit Pawar defended the integrity of the election results but acknowledged that people have the right to question and protest.

Uddhav Thackeray called for a broader movement led by the Maha Vikas Aghadi to amplify Dr. Adhav’s cause.

This hunger strike highlights the pressing need for safeguarding democratic values and constitutional rights, urging collective action from the public and opposition parties alike.
