Pune: Vishrambaug police have arrested a man who allegedly attempted to set female police officer on fire on Friday (July 5) late evening during a routine vehicle inspection drive at Budhwar Chowk.

The potential disaster was averted when the suspect held the lighter upside down, preventing it from igniting.

According to police, a checkpoint was established for action against individuals who were found driving their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

While some police personnel stopped a vehicle driver for inspection, after a heated argument, the suspect poured petrol from a bottle on the police staff. The suspect had a lighter in his hand and tried to ignite it, but failed to do so.

Police officers present on the spot got hold of the suspect immediately and detained him at Vishrambaug police station.
