Eid-e-Milad Holiday Stays on September 16 in Pune, Changes to September 18 in Mumbai

Pune: The public holiday for Eid-e-Milad, which was previously scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024, remains unchanged in Pune district, confirmed District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase.

This decision aligns with the state's earlier notification issued on November 10, 2023, listing Eid-e-Milad as one of the 24 official public holidays for the year 2024.

Eid-e-Milad, an important religious festival celebrated by Muslims across the state, marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is traditionally observed with large processions and gatherings.

This year, the holiday coincides with Anant Chaturdashi, the concluding day of the Ganesh festival, which falls on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

In light of both festivals occurring back-to-back, and to ensure peace and communal harmony, the Muslim community in Mumbai and its suburbs has opted to conduct the Eid-e-Milad procession on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, rather than Monday.

As a result, the public holiday in Mumbai and its surrounding regions, originally declared for September 16, has been rescheduled to September 18, 2024.

However, outside of Mumbai, including Pune, district collectors have been given the authority to decide whether to maintain the holiday on September 16 or move it to September 18, depending on the local scheduling of Eid processions.

Dr. Suhas Divase, the District Collector of Pune, has confirmed that the holiday will stay on September 16 in Pune district, and there will be no changes.

Other districts are expected to make announcements following guidance from the General Administration Department.
