Pune: Despite stringent anti-cheating measures, instances of exam malpractice persist in the Maharashtra Class 12 board examinations. During Monday’s Physics and Logic papers, a total of 74 students were caught cheating across various examination centers in the state.
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has undertaken several initiatives to curb exam-related misconduct, including widespread awareness campaigns and strict invigilation.
However, the trend of students resorting to unfair means has not shown a significant decline. Reports indicate that cases of cheating are being recorded in every exam, with some divisions consistently reporting higher numbers.
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division emerged as the most affected, with 57 students caught cheating on Monday (February 17) —the highest among all divisions.
Apart from this, other divisions reported the following numbers:
Pune Division – 7 students
Nagpur – 1 student
Mumbai – 1 student
Amravati – 3 students
Nashik – 1 student
Latur – 4 students
Education authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent examination process. They have warned that strict action will be taken against students caught using unfair means, including disqualification from exams and further disciplinary measures.
The Maharashtra board continues to enforce stricter surveillance through surprise inspections, flying squads, and technological monitoring to minimize malpractice. However, with each passing exam, the challenge of completely eliminating cheating remains a concern for educators and policymakers.
