After the government finally disclosed the names of soldiers who died last year in Operation Sindoor, the internet has been flooded with reactions from opposition leaders and social media users, many of whom are highlighting the government’s statement to Parliament to special discussion/debate on Operation Sindoor announced last year.
On Friday, in its first official disclosure, the government released the list of brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives while defending India’s borders and made public the names of six armed forces personnel.
Of these six, five belong to the Indian Army and one to the Indian Air Force. Their names have been added to the Roll of Honour on the National War Memorial website.
The names of the six fallen military personnel are;
Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade;
Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Vir Chakra, of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry;
Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment;
Agniveer Mood Muralinaik of 851 Light Regiment;
Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company;
Sergeant Surendra Kumar, Vayu Medal, of 39 Wing
Their names will be engraved on the Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. On June 8, President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the Vir Chakra posthumously to the family of Sergeant Rifleman Sunil Kumar in Delhi.
The opposition has condemned the government for not disclosing, for an entire year, the identities of the soldiers who were martyred in Operation Sindoor.
At the same time, users on the social media platform X are circulating a video of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks made during the special parliamentary session called by the government to deliberate on India’s response through ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which was launched following the deadly attack carried out by four terrorists in Pahalgam claiming 26 lives.
In the video it can be seen Rajnath Singh replying to the debate in the Parliament.
"Aapko prashna puchna hai toh yeh puchiyee Kya iss operation mai apne jabaaz sainikoki shatti hui hai, toh uska uttar hai nahi."
(“If you want to ask questions, ask whether Operation Sindoor was a success — the answer is yes. Ask whether the terrorists/masterminds were eliminated — yes. Ask whether any of our brave soldiers were harmed — the answer is no. None of our soldiers were harmed.”)
After the revelation, numerous users on X posted videos of Rajnath Singh’s parliamentary remarks, claiming they conflicted with the government’s latest announcement.
Some also raised concerns about why the identities of the personnel were disclosed almost a year after the operation. The government is still awaited.
