Pune: A trip to the popular tourist spot of Thoseghar turned tragic for five tourists from Pune after their vehicle plunged into a gorge while they were returning from the scenic location.

The accident occurred early in the morning near Sajjangad Phata when the driver attempted to avoid a pothole, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into a deep ravine.

The group of tourists had traveled to Thoseghar on Thursday, August 26th, to enjoy the area's famous waterfalls.

The accident took place as they were making their way back to Pune. Upon receiving the report of the accident, local authorities rushed to the scene and arranged for the injured to be transported to Krantisinh Nana Patil Hospital in Satara.

The injured are currently receiving treatment, and medical professionals are monitoring their condition closely. Local police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and whether the dangerous road conditions played a role in the vehicle’s fall.

The stretch of road near Sajjangad Phata is known for its sharp curves and potholes, which may have contributed to the mishap.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers that can occur on mountain roads, particularly during the monsoon season when road conditions worsen due to heavy rainfall.

Authorities have urged tourists and drivers to exercise caution when navigating the region’s steep and winding roads.
