Shimla: A video allegedly from Himachal Pradesh has sparked widespread outrage on social media after CCTV footage appeared to show a young man inappropriately touching a foreign woman tourist as she walked through a public area.
The incident, which reportedly took place on June 4, 2026, was shared on X by the account The Modern Himachal. The video depicts a group of young men standing outside a building as two tourists pass by. Moments later, one of the men appears to touch a female tourist inappropriately before she continues walking with her companion.
While sharing the video, The Modern Himachal denounced the incident and called on authorities to take stringent action against the accused. “She was travelling through the hills with her friend, taking in the beauty and tranquility of Himachal, when a stranger’s inappropriate touch shattered her feeling of safety,” the post stated.
The page went on to say that such incidents not only spoil the experience of visitors but also harm India’s image as a safe tourist destination. “Each such act undermines not only an individual’s dignity but also our country’s reputation as a secure place for travellers,” the post added, tagging the Himachal Pradesh Police.
The CCTV recording also captures remarks from the person filming, who condemns the group’s behaviour. “Look at how they are acting,” the narrator says, voicing concern about instances of harassment experienced by tourists in popular destinations. The commentator adds that the conduct of a few individuals can create an unfavourable image of the region and its people.
