Pune, 22 September 2025: Pune airport witnessed a security scare when a revolver and live cartridges were found in the bag of a former Zilla Parishad member traveling to Varanasi.
Chandrakant Prabhakar Bagal, 63, a resident of Gadegaon, Pandharpur, was identified after airport security scanned his bag before check-in. The weapon and five live bullets were confiscated by CISF and airport authorities during the inspection.
Bagal, a civil contractor, had previously contested the 2014 Pandharpur assembly elections as a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party but was unsuccessful. Authorities discovered that his firearm license was only valid within Maharashtra. As a result, a case was registered against him under Section 30 of the Arms Act, 1959.
After the investigation, Bagal was issued a notice and released. The incident highlights strict airport security measures to prevent the transportation of firearms on flights.
