Pune: The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is moving closer to achieving deemed university status, a step aimed at boosting its global recognition. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, held discussions with students and faculty during his visit to the institute on Saturday (January 11).

Vision for FTII’s Global Recognition

During the interaction, Minister Vaishnaw emphasized FTII’s potential to become a global hub for quality film education. Highlighting the potential benefits of the deemed university status, Vaishnaw referenced the success of Gati Shakti University, noting its rapid progress in producing skilled professionals for global industries.

Vaishnaw highlighted how the institution could create skilled professionals for the international market in a short span. “Strengthening collaborations with the industry will provide students with enhanced career opportunities and align film education with modern industry demands,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw.

State-of-the-Art Auditorium Inaugurated

Vaishnaw also inaugurated a newly constructed auditorium at FTII. With a seating capacity of 586, the auditorium is equipped with advanced features, including a 50-foot-wide and 20-foot-tall screen, surround sound, a projector, and a PA system.

The new facility is expected to play a crucial role in the institute’s academic activities, offering an enhanced learning environment for students. Uniquely, the auditorium can transform into a movie theater via remote-controlled mechanisms, a first-of-its-kind innovation for which FTII has filed a patent.
