Funeral Turns Chaotic After Bee Swarm Attack, Several Hospitalized

As rituals were being carried out, smoke spread toward the tree, agitating the bees. Suddenly, the bees attacked the gathered crowd, creating panic.

Pune: In a shocking incident on Saturday (October 5) morning in Mengdewadi of Ambegaon Taluka, a swarm of bees attacked a group of mourners during a funeral ceremony, resulting in five individuals being stung severely.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the cremation ground when the smoke from the funeral disturbed a large number of bees resting on a nearby tree.

The funeral was for Kashinath Baban Mengde, a 68-year-old resident of Mengdewadi, who had passed away earlier that morning around 1:30 a.m..

As the rituals were being carried out, the smoke spread toward the tree, agitating the bees. Suddenly, the bees attacked the gathered crowd, creating a state of panic and confusion.

Mourners tried to flee the scene, but several were caught in the attack, with bees stinging them repeatedly. This unexpected attack caused great concern and panic among the locals.

A total of five individuals sustained severe bee stings and were immediately rushed to the Nirgudsar Rural Hospital for treatment. Among the injured were:

  • Vaibhav Kailas Mengde (age 28)

  • Vitthal Rambhau Mengde (age 85)

  • Pranay Dnyaneshwar Mengde (age 23)

  • Akshay Namdev Mengde (age 27)

  • Subhash Pandharinath Kurkute (age 52)

Doctors at Nirgudsar Rural Hospital have reported that all five individuals are in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
