Police reported that a 16-year-old boy allegedly killed his elder brother, sister-in-law, and their three-year-old son with a sharp weapon while they were sleeping at their home in Balua village of Gorakhpur district in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred at around 3 am in the village, located within the jurisdiction of the Bansgaon police station, approximately 50 km from the district headquarters. The deceased have been identified as Amit Gupta, his wife Ranjana, and their son Reyansh.
Police stated that the three victims were asleep in the same room when the teenager allegedly assaulted them with a sharp-edged weapon, while the accused’s parents were sleeping in a separate room at the time.
According to police, the boy’s father heard screams and ran to the room, where he discovered the three family members lying in a pool of blood. He allegedly saw his younger son leaving the room with the weapon in hand, then alerted neighbours before contacting the police.
Senior police officers arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The teenager was taken into custody from an upstairs room, where officers allegedly discovered him with the bloodstained weapon. A case has been filed based on the complaint of the victims' father, and the bodies have been sent for autopsy.
SP (South) Dinesh Puri said the three victims were killed inside the room, and the juvenile was being questioned.
The motive for the killings has not yet been determined, police said, noting that an initial investigation indicates a possible dispute over a family-operated shop may have led to the incident. A further investigation is in progress.
