Pune: The flower market at Gultekdi Market Yard witnessed a surge in supply and demand ahead of Gudi Padwa, as farmers from various districts across Maharashtra brought their produce to the wholesale market.

With increased demand during the festival, flowers fetched good prices, bringing cheer to farmers. On Saturday (March 29), the arrival of flowers increased significantly, and traders reported strong demand for marigold, asters, chrysanthemums, and jasmine varieties.

"Farmers from Pune, Solapur, and Satara have grown marigolds in large quantities this year, and the supply has been robust," said flower trader Sagar Bhosale.

The wholesale price of mogra (jasmine) has surged to ₹800-1,000 per kg due to increased demand, with supplies arriving from Soratapwadi, Talegaon, Dehu, Alandi, Uruli Kanchan, and nearby villages. The intense summer heat has also affected flower quality, with high-grade flowers commanding better prices in the market.

Flower Market Receives 20 Tons of Supply

"The festival has driven flower arrivals to an all-time high. On Sunday, even more flowers are expected to arrive. Marigold and bijli (a special variety of marigold) have been in great demand. Around 20 tons of flowers reached the market, and farmers are pleased with the prices."
