Pune: A shocking incident unfolded at Shastrinagar Chowk in Yerawada on International Women’s Day, where an intoxicated young man was caught on camera engaging in obscene behavior in public. The video of the incident quickly went viral, sparking outrage and drawing strong reactions from the public and authorities alike.
The accused has been identified as Gaurav Manoj Ahuja, son of prominent hotelier Manoj Ahuja. According to reports, Gaurav was driving a BMW registered in his father’s name when he stopped his vehicle in the middle of Shastrinagar Chowk and urinated on the footpath in full public view. The act was recorded by a passerby, who also captured him making inappropriate gestures before speeding away.
Speaking on the matter, Gaurav’s father, Manoj Ahuja, expressed deep disappointment and embarrassment over his son’s behavior. "I am ashamed to call him my son. The car in the video is registered in my name, which is why the police have summoned me for questioning. Whatever legal action is taken, I will accept it. My son’s phone has been switched off since morning, and we are also searching for him," he said.
Police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway. CCTV footage has revealed that Gaurav was traveling from Wagholi toward Yerawada before stopping at Shastrinagar Chowk. Authorities are verifying whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The BMW involved has not yet been taken into police custody, and efforts are ongoing to locate the accused.
Eyewitnesses have expressed outrage over the incident, especially since it took place on International Women’s Day and occurred in the presence of women passing by. Many have drawn parallels between this case and the recent Porsche accident in Kalyaninagar, questioning the increasing instances of reckless behavior among privileged youth.
