Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has released the holiday schedule for 2025, announcing 25 public holidays for its affiliated colleges and institutions. These holidays are in addition to the weekly Sundays, providing students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to plan their schedules well in advance.
However, notable holidays such as Republic Day, Gudi Padwa, Ram Navami, and Muharram fall on Sundays, reducing the overall number of effective holidays for students and staff. Despite this, the holiday calendar includes several long weekends, making 2025 a year with substantial time off.
Weekly and Special Holidays
For administrative offices, SPPU follows a schedule that includes weekly Sundays and holidays on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Colleges affiliated with the university will remain closed on the same days. Additionally, colleges will observe summer vacations and holidays during Diwali, ensuring significant breaks for students and faculty.
The 2025 holiday circular also outlines that district authorities will decide specific holidays applicable to affiliated colleges. In cases where institutions cannot accommodate all declared holidays, they have the flexibility to provide alternative holidays as per operational requirements.
Nine Long Weekends
One of the highlights of the 2025 holiday schedule is the occurrence of nine long weekends. These are a result of public holidays falling adjacent to Sundays, allowing for extended breaks. The breakdown includes:
Three holidays on Mondays
One holiday on Saturday
Five holidays on Fridays
Such long weekends are expected to benefit students, faculty, and administrative staff, offering opportunities for relaxation or travel.
The university has clarified that during these holidays, all academic and administrative work will remain suspended. The detailed holiday calendar aims to strike a balance between academic responsibilities and personal time for all stakeholders.
