Pune: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has launched a rigorous crackdown on illegal hotels, bars, and pubs within the city. The drive follows the revelation that 90 establishments have engaged in unauthorized construction, prompting immediate action.

The recent survey by the municipal corporation has led to the demolition of seven hotels in the Walhekarwadi and Ravet areas, deemed to have violated building regulations.

Jagdamba Hotel, Gunaji Dhaba, Shivraj Hotel, Jai Malhar Hotel, Maratha Palace Hotel, and Gavkari Thaat were among the seven hotels in Walhekarwadi that were acted upon. Additionally, action will be taken against Hotel New Delhi Darbar, Hotel Bhondve Mala, and Hotel Gav Chavadi in Ravet.

This action comes in the wake of a high-profile car accident in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, which brought attention to the irregularities in the operation of such establishments. The crackdown is part of a broader effort to ensure public safety and compliance with municipal regulations.

The corporation has mandated that all hotel and bar owners in the city conduct a structural audit of their premises and obtain fire safety certificates.

The corporation issued notices to the top 87 hotels operating illegally in the flood zone of the Pavana River in Ravet and Walhekarwadi, and within 24 hours, completely demolished the hotels.

PCMC Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar informed that hotel owners must obtain a structural audit and fire safety certificate. Notices have been issued to encroaching hotels, and action will soon be taken against them.
