Pune: The Shivajinagar police have uncovered an illegal operation involving the sale of stimulant injections to gym-goers under the guise of helping them build better physiques. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested two individuals and confiscated 14 unauthorized injections worth ₹5,000.

The accused, identified as Deepak Wadekar (32), a resident of Khadki, and Sajan Jadhav (25), a resident of Aundh, have been charged under relevant sections of the law. The complaint was lodged by Police Constable Tejas Chopade.

Police Action and Investigation

The police received information that the accused were parked in a car on a road leading to Irani Vasti in N.T. Wadi and were in possession of the illegal injections. Upon inspection, officers found the stimulant injections, which were being sold to gym-goers despite their potential to cause severe health risks.

Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant stated that the injections were being marketed without authorization, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the source of the drugs, their intended buyers, and whether the accused had any accomplices.

“The use of these injections can pose significant risks to the health and lives of consumers. We are working to trace the supply chain and prevent further misuse,” said Inspector Sawant.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Drug Misuse

Authorities are intensifying their efforts to crack down on the sale of unauthorized drugs and raise awareness about their dangers, especially among fitness enthusiasts.

In September 2024, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police had registered a case against a medical store owner in Chinchwad for allegedly selling counterfeit injections meant for cancer treatment.

The police action took place near Niramay Hospital in Chinchwad, following a tip-off about the sale of fake medicines. The accused, Shriprasad Shrihari Kulkarni (42), a resident of Sinhagad Road, Pune, faced legal action for endangering public health.
