IMD Issues Orange Alert for Pune District for Next Two Days

This prediction, announced on Sunday (July 14), indicates that both the city and the ghats will see increased rainfall intensity.

Pune: The city and surrounding areas have been experiencing heavy rains over the past two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange Alert' for Pune district, forecasting continued heavy rainfall over the next two days.

This prediction, announced on Sunday (July 14), indicates that both the city and the ghats will see increased rainfall intensity.

The rains began on Saturday afternoon, intensifying after midnight. By 8:30 AM on Sunday, Shivajinagar had recorded 37 mm of rainfall. Lonavala received the highest rainfall at 241.5 mm.

Other notable measurements included NDA with 56.5 mm and Pashan with 38.5 mm. The showers persisted throughout Sunday, with Shivajinagar recording an additional 16.6 mm by 5:30 PM.

The IMD predicts extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of the ghats on Monday (15th) and Tuesday (16th). Lighter to moderate rains are expected in the plains, prompting the 'Orange Alert' for Pune district.

The catchment areas of Khadakwasla, Varasgaon, Panshet, and Temghar dams have been receiving heavy rain since Saturday night, increasing the water levels. The water storage in Khadakwasla dam rose from 4.55 TMC on July 2 to 10.12 TMC by 5 PM on Sunday.

Weather Forecast:

Monday (14th): Continuous moderate to heavy rain expected, with very heavy to extremely heavy rain in isolated ghats.

Tuesday (15th): Mostly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers. Isolated areas in the ghats may experience very heavy rain.
