Pune: The Indrayani River, flowing through the southern part of Khed taluka, has overflowed due to continuous heavy rain, submerging the Chikhali-Moi bridge and cutting off Moi village's connection to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation road. The bridge was inundated around noon.

Over the past two days, heavy rain in Maval, Khed, and Haveli talukas has caused the Indrayani River's water level to rise significantly, flooding farmland on both sides and submerging the cremation grounds of riverbank villages such as Moi, Kuruli, and Chimbali.

The Mhalunge Traffic Police Department has barricaded both sides of the Indrayani River bridge and closed the road, diverting traffic via Chimbali Phata, Pune-Nashik Highway, and Nigdi-Talegaon routes.

Moi village Sarpanch Shilatatai Santosh Rokde, along with other local officials, contacted Mahalunge Police Inspector Nitin Gite, who deployed police personnel and barricades on the Indrayani River bridge.

The rising water level attracted a large crowd to the area. The area behind River Residency in Chikhali-Moshi has also been flooded. Current and former corporators of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation have inspected the area.

Assistant Engineer Kishor Chavan from the Moshi Irrigation Branch has stated that 2172 cusecs of water is being discharged into the Kundali (Indrayani) River from the Vadivale dam spillway. Adjustments to the discharge may be made based on rainfall and inflow.

Citizens are advised to avoid entering the Indrayani River during flood conditions and to refrain from using the bunds between Dehu and Tularpur for transportation due to the high risk of flooding.
