Pune: In a significant development for the Junnar taluka, four pilgrimage sites have been awarded 'Class C' status by the state government, as announced by MLA Atul Benke.

This recognition comes in response to the growing demand from local representatives for the classification of major religious sites under the 'Tirthakshetra Yojana.'

The state government has been responsive, granting approvals to numerous prominent pilgrimage locations.

MLA Atul Benke had taken the initiative to reach out to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and the Pune District Collector, formally requesting the 'Class C' designation for seven pilgrimage sites in Junnar.

Following a thorough evaluation, four of these sites have now been officially recognized. The sites that have received this designation include the Shree Kshetra Mahalaxmi Deosthan located in Umbaraj No. 1, the Shree Kshetra Muktabai Jagdamba Mandir in Khodad, the Shree Siddheshwar Mandir in Bori Budruk, and the Shree Shriram Panchayatan Trust situated in Gunjalwadi (Arvi).

To facilitate this status grant, a committee led by the District Collector was formed, comprising the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad and the Superintendent of Police for Pune Rural.

This committee meticulously reviewed all proposals and recommended the sites deemed eligible for 'Class C' status. The final approval request was subsequently issued by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar during a meeting of the District Planning Committee.

As a result of this initiative, Junnar taluka now boasts four pilgrimage sites with 'Class C' status, enhancing their recognition and support for future developments.
