Pune: A 39-year-old dance instructor from a reputed school in Karvenagar has been sent to judicial custody until January 4 for allegedly committing unnatural sexual assault on minors.
The incidents reportedly occurred over two years, from 2022 to December 9, 2024, within the school premises. The case has caused significant concern, leading to the arrest of both the accused instructor and the school administrator.
The accused was initially in police custody. Upon its expiry, the Warje Malwadi police presented him before the court, citing the gravity of the offenses and the necessity for further investigation.
The public prosecutor argued for judicial custody to allow questioning of witnesses and the preparation of a chargesheet. The court granted the request and ordered the accused’s transfer to Yerawada Central Jail.
The defense lawyers, Advocate Suchit Mundada and Advocate Vikram Kadam, argued on behalf of the accused, stating their intention to file a bail application.
The accused has been charged under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including Sections 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, and 15, along with Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.
Victim’s Family Files Complaint
The case came to light following a complaint lodged by the father of one of the victims. The allegations include repeated instances of abuse over two years. The school’s administrator has also been arrested and placed in judicial custody, raising questions about the institution’s role in failing to prevent such incidents.
