Pune Police unraveled the truth behind a reported firing incident in Katraj Ghat, where a man claimed he was shot by two unidentified assailants. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the man had attempted suicide due to overwhelming financial debt.

The injured individual, identified as Deepak Raju Lukat (44), a resident of Aundh, was found by a patrolling team from Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station on Monday (December 30) night. He was discovered injured in Katraj Ghat and promptly taken to the hospital. A gunshot wound was observed near his shoulder and chest area.

Initial Claims and Investigation

Deepak initially alleged that two men had taken him to Katraj Ghat, robbed him, and shot him. Considering the gravity of the situation, the police initiated an extensive investigation:

  • Scene Inspection: The police recovered a pistol from the area.

  • CCTV Footage Analysis: Footage from nearby cameras was reviewed.

  • Technical Evidence Review: Efforts were made to corroborate the firing claims through technical analysis.

Despite these measures, no evidence supported Deepak’s allegations.

The Truth Unfolds

Upon re-interrogation, Deepak confessed that he had fabricated the story. Struggling with financial debt, he had attempted to take his own life by shooting himself.

The revelation brought relief to the investigating officers, who were initially concerned about public safety in the case of a possible armed attack. A case is now being registered at Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station, and further procedures are underway.
