Pune, 20 June 2025: The discharge of water from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha river basin has been reduced to 11,924 cusecs from the earlier 15,092 cusecs, the Irrigation Department confirmed on Friday morning. The change came into effect at 10:00 AM and may be revised further based on rainfall and reservoir levels.

Mohan Bhadane, Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division in Swargate, said the decision was taken after reviewing the current inflow and storage conditions. “We are monitoring the situation closely. Further adjustments, whether an increase or decrease, will depend on the rainfall pattern and dam conditions,” he said.

The department has issued an alert to the public and local administrations, urging residents near the riverbanks to remain vigilant. People living in low-lying areas have been advised not to venture close to the river and to shift any materials, livestock, or belongings to safer locations.

The Pune Municipal Corporation, disaster management teams, and local police have been notified to take precautionary steps to ensure public safety. Authorities are prepared to respond swiftly to any sudden changes in water levels.

Officials clarified that such regulated releases are a routine part of monsoon management. They help prevent the reservoir from overflowing while ensuring a steady water supply downstream. The Khadakwasla Dam remains a crucial source of water for Pune and plays a significant role in irrigation and flood control for the region.
