Pune: A resident of a high-end society in Kothrud was fined ₹5,000 after being caught illegally dumping biomedical waste on a public road behind Cummins Company. The action was taken by municipal health inspectors, who traced the offender’s address through discarded waste materials and issued a fine.

Municipal health inspector Karan Kumbhar and supervisor Vaijinath Gaikwad noticed biomedical waste discarded on the road. Knowing the risks of improper disposal, they searched through the waste and discovered identifying details, leading them to the culprit’s address and contact number.

Upon calling the offender, the officials were met with arrogant responses. However, when informed that a criminal case could be filed, the individual admitted to dumping the waste but stated they were out of town and unable to pay immediately. The officials then warned that a police complaint would be registered, after which the offender immediately transferred the fine online.

According to supervisor Gaikwad, after realizing the consequences, the offender paid a compromise fee of ₹5,000 and promised to follow proper waste disposal guidelines in the future.

Municipal authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those who dump biomedical waste irresponsibly, putting public health at risk. CCTV surveillance and sanitation workers are monitoring violations, and any offender caught will face penalties.
