Pune: A shocking incident took place at around 5:15 PM in Kothrud’s Sagar Colony vegetable market, where a group of three to five youths attacked a man with sharp weapons resembling machetes.

The attackers, after inflicting multiple blows on the victim, fled the scene while shouting loudly and brandishing their weapons. The violent nature of the attack has left the local community in fear.

The attack occurred at the bustling Sagar Colony vegetable market, situated along DP Road. Evenings in this area witness heavy traffic congestion due to the large number of vendors and customers.

According to an eyewitness, the victim was standing near a popular "Kutchi Dabeli" food cart when the assailants suddenly charged towards him, shouting and striking him repeatedly with their weapons.

Hundreds of people at the market watched in horror. A female vegetable vendor fainted from shock, while the food cart owner and nearby shopkeepers fled in fear. Some bystanders immediately called the police, but by the time officers arrived, the attackers had already escaped into the narrow lanes of Sagar Colony.

Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane of Kothrud Police Station clarified that the incident was not linked to gang warfare. "We have taken the suspects into custody, and a thorough investigation is ongoing. One person has sustained serious injuries," he stated.

Rising Concerns Over Safety

The attack has sparked widespread discussions in Kothrud, with residents raising concerns about increasing crime and the possible involvement of minors in criminal activities.

Many are questioning the safety of the locality, especially considering the incident took place near a police station. Additionally, citizens are worried about the delay in police response and the reluctance of bystanders to intervene in such situations.
