Pune: A large crack has formed near Lohgad village, situated at the base of Lohgad Fort, causing a landslide-like situation and raising concerns among the residents.

The heavy rains of the past week have exacerbated the situation, leading to road damage and cracks in various locations. Authorities have inspected the area and assured the villagers of their safety.

A farmer's cattle shed nearby has also developed cracks, causing fear among the villagers. The heavy rains from last week have washed away roads and caused cracks in several places.

This latest incident of a large crack appearing 400 to 500 meters from Lohgad village adds to the concerns. The area has a history of landslides, with a major incident in 1989 burying three to four houses and killing many cattle. In 2006, another significant landslide buried the paddy fields of farmers in Dhalevadi.

Local authorities, including former district council member Alka Dhanivale, Ganesh Dhanivale, the police patil, the sarpanch, and villagers, contacted the revenue department.

Subsequently, Maval-Mulshi Sub-Divisional Officer Surendra Navale, Tehsildar Vikram Deshmukh, and Talathi Sharad Gade inspected the cracks and landslide area in Lohgad village.

They also examined the main road leading to Lohgad Gherewadi, which had developed cracks. The recent rains have weakened parts of the mountain, causing these cracks. Photographs of the damage have been sent to the relevant authorities.

Tehsildar Vikram Deshmukh reassured the villagers, stating, "Citizens should not panic. The administration is in touch with the villagers."
